Sunrise on Temple Mount in Jerusalem; Back to Previous Devotion

November 27 - Evening

"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness."

- Second Thessalonians 2:9-12

Deception is the Only Option if Truth is Rejected

The importance of hearing and accepting truth is highlighted in Paul's reference to the events surrounding "the coming of the lawless one." Those who have “refused to love the truth” will be deceived by “the lie.” Any alternative to God's truth will always be a lie. A person who rejects the truth will have only one other alternative if they continue their search – they will be deceived.

Concerning these people who have rejected the truth, Paul says, that along with “the coming of the lawless one,” God will send “a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.” Those who have heard and accepted the truth will have the ability to recognize truth and discern the lie, but those who reject truth have only one alternative. This is especially true since Satan includes in his presentation of the lawless one “all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie.”

There is a delusion coming that will have an irresistible draw on people who have rejected the truth. This will be the great deception. But, even today in our culture and in our churches there are lies and deceptions that arise to mislead those of us who have refused to hear the truth, know the truth, and so, love the truth.
  Christian Quote from Church History
"The most damnable and pernicious heresy that has ever plagued the mind of man was the idea that somehow
he could make himself
good enough to deserve to
live with an all-holy God."
- Martin Luther
Something to Ponder??
Liberal theology from the late 1800's generally rejected the concept of man's sin nature, and focused on the
goodness of mankind.

Hebrew and Greek Word Study   Facts and Information

Akoloutheo (Gr) - Follow (Eng) - akoloutheo is Greek word that from the Greek work keleuthos which means "path." Akoloutheo is translated "follow" 35x, "following" 17x and "follows" 1x in
the New Testament. Before the Koine Greek used in the first century akoloutheo was used in Classical Greek by Plato to mean "follow the drift" or "to understand." Thucydides used
akoloutheo around 420 BC to mean "adapt onself." Matthew uses this word twice when
he writes of his personalinvitation from Jesus in Matthew 9:9:

"As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him."

Josephus confirms Luke’s identification of a synagogue in Ephesus. Josephus says the Jews in Ephesus where given citizenship in the city.  He also records ancient documents from Ephesus that exempts the Jews from civil duties on the Sabbath.

Confession to Action   Facts and Information

Do I have a commitment to the truth? Or, do I have a commitment to my preferences?
"Truth" and "my preference" are not synonyms!
I will seek to hear, know and understand truth so that I can judge my thoughts, actions and
preferences with what is absolute, real and eternal.

"Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,
    give careful attention to your herds;
for riches do not
endure forever,

    and a crown is not
secure for all generations."
Proverbs 27:23-24

These stones are below the 70 AD street level and today's street level, so the craftsmen did not cut the bosses smooth.
