Sunrise on Temple Mount in Jerusalem; Back to Previous Devotion

February 4 - Morning

"Then the Lord said to Moses, 'See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to
make everything I have commanded you.'
"

- Exodus 31:1-6

Chosen and Anointed as a Craftsman

The Lord provided Moses to deliver the people from Egypt, Joshua to lead them in battle against the Amalekites, Aaron and his sons to serve as priests, wise elders to help decide judicial matters, and, now, Bezalel to lead in the craftsmanship. The Lord not only anointed Moses to deliver, Aaron to intercede and Joshua to fight.  Bezalel was anointed to build and to create. Bezalel, from the tribe of Judah, was filled with the Spirit of God, which gave him not the gift of prophecy or power to do miracles, but to create crafts and artistic design with:

  1. Skill
  2. Ability
  3. Knowledge

These were to be used the formation of material things made from:

  1. gold,
  2. silver
  3. bronze
  4. cutting stone
  5. setting and building with stone
  6. wood
  7. and, all kinds of craftsmanship

Bezalel was given two equally gifted assistants from the tribe of Dan named Oholiab son of Ahisamach. God then promised to gift and empower a work force to help carry out Bezalel’s responsibilities and to create all Bezalel’s plans and projects.

  Christian Quote from Church History
"“The proud person always wants to do the right thing, the great thing. But because he wants to do it in his own strength, he is fighting not
with man, but with God.”
-
Søren Kierkegaard
Something to Ponder??

Gallup's 1990 study showed that 86% of Americans call themselves Christian, and that 70% of them say they are "born again."

Pew research showed that 24% of Americans say they attend church on Sunday.

But, based on statistics from actual church services the Baylor study found only 17% of Americans attend church.

Hebrew and Greek Word Study   Facts and Information

Zaqen (Hb) – Elder (Eng) – zaqen is the Hebrew word that means “old man” and “aged person.”
The assumption from this word and the position is that wisdom is gained with age, time and experience. The nation of Israel had zaqen, but each city had its own local zaqen who
would set the standard of morality and serve as judges in the city gates.

When Paul visited Damascus in 34 AD there were several synagogues in operation in this New Testament city which is in today’s SE quadrant of Damascus. There was a colonnaded cardo, a 50 foot wide street. that has been excavated and its column’s found. This is likely to have been the “straight Street” of Acts 9:11. A portion of the Roman wall of the city of Damascus has been found with a church built over the gate to commemorate Paul’s escape through a window in the this wall (2 Cor. 11:33).

Confession to Action   Facts and Information
Do I use the skills that God has given me? Or, do I wish I had other abilities instead?
I will identify how God has gifted me and will seek to develop the skills the Spirit empowers me with.
"When I was a boy in my father’s house,
still tender, and an only child of my mother,
he taught me and said,
    'Lay hold of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands and you will live.' "
- Proverbs 4:3-4
