Sunrise on Temple Mount in Jerusalem; Back to Previous Devotion

December 31 - Evening

"The angel said to me, 'These words are trustworthy
and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants
the things that must soon take place.'

'Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book.'

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them...

...I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

He who testifies to these things says,
 'Yes, I am coming soon.'

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. "

- Revelation 22:6-8, 18-20

The Final Promise and Warning

In chapter twenty-two Jesus says he is coming soon and John testifies that he has written down truthfully all he was shown. Jesus repeats several times he is coming soon and the free gift of salvation is offered as a free drink of the water of life to any who will accept it.

The Bible ends with a promise that Jesus is coming soon with the intention of setting up a kingdom that will judge the rebels and destroy unrighteousness.

Until that time we who are believers are given a warning to honor the Lord's revealed and recorded words in Scripture. Failure to do so will result in loss of reward or addition of plagues.

"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book."

Our hope is in Jesus Christ who has revealed himself in the recorded Word of God found in Scripture.
Any deviation from the truth found in Scripture will present a false image of the Lord and false hope in unrealistic expectations. Failure to embrace the truth of God's recorded Word will result in loss and suffering for the believer. Until Jesus returns we must attend to the Word of God.

  Christian Quote from Church History
"We could march right past God's discipline only to
meet his judgment."
- Galyn Wiemers
Something to Ponder??
"Churches must recover the centrality and urgency of biblical teaching and preaching, and refuse to sideline the teaching ministry of the preacher. Pastors and churches too busy--or too distracted--to make biblical knowledge a central aim of ministry will produce believers who simply do not know enough to be faithful disciples." (- Albert Mohler, "The Scandal of Biblical Illiteracy: It's Our Problem")

Hebrew and Greek Word Study   Facts and Information

Dokimazo (Gr) - Examine (Eng) - dokimazo is a Greek word that was a technical term used to refer to the process of testing the genuineness of coins. Dokimazo appears 20 times and is translated as "analyze," "approve," "examine," "prove," and "test." It is used by John in First John 4:1 to tell his people not to believe every teacher or every voice, but first dokimazo them:

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test (dokimazo) the spirits to see whether they
are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."

Confession to Action   Facts and Information
Do I allow pseudo-Christian thoughts to determine my understanding of God?
Are catchy religious phrases being used to justify my personal belief system?
I will read, study and accept the Word of God in its entirety.
I will resist the temptation to adjust the Word of God to my will or create a savior in my own image.
